10 Cloverfield Land Director To Helm Sci-Fi Spec Space Race

– by Joseph Medina

Last year’s 10 Cloverfield Lane was the first great horror/thriller of 2016, and one that rose above and beyond the name of Cloverfield. Between the isolated atmosphere, the stellar character development, and engaging premise, 10 Cloverfield Lane turned out to be quite the unexpected surprise from a new filmmaker who got his start making YouTube videos.

Well, it sounds like Trachtenberg is getting ready to hop on board this next project.ccording to Variety, 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Dan Trachtenberg is currently in negotiations to helm the flick.

Details regarding the script are under wraps, but it was written by Daniel Kunka (the screenwriter behind the John Cena flick 12 Rounds), and is set to be produced by Trachtenberg and War for the Planet of the Apes producer Dylan Clark.

Obviously, right now, there is little to go on. Kunka is a relatively unknown commodity. With one movie under his belt and one TV show (Ark) announced, it’s hard to get attached to too many details. However, we can’t overlook Trachtenberg potentially hopping on board as director.

As stated above, 10 Cloverfield Lane was a film that managed to impress on virtually every level. Taking that into account, it’s easy to get excited about Trachtenberg having more of a hand in picking his own creative projects. He’s still a young, talented creative at the start of his career, so it’ll be interesting to see how he starts to choose his own films. Given his talent for making isolated projects, I’m hoping that Space Race is close to those lines. That being said, given that the title is Space Race, the idea of that seems unlikely. Chances are this is the director getting ready to spread his wings in a new direction, which could be a good thing.

Here’s hoping this is another step up for one of the most promising directors in Hollywood.
