12 Strong Gets A Second Trailer

Warner Bros. has just released the second trailer for 12 Strong, a film that is set in Afghanistan on the heels of the 9/11 attacks. Check out the trailer above.

I’m admittedly a bit torn on this one. While it does look like a gorgeous-looking film, I always head into war films with a decent amount of trepidation, as they run the risk of glorifying it too much. That being said, many of the great war movies of all time are anti-war films, and under the right director, this film could very well be something that shows the true brutality of war. We’ll have to wait until it hits theaters to find out for sure.

Regardless of my personal opinion on the subject, however, it’s a strong story, and could make for an entertaining and beautiful film.

12 Strong is set in the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans—accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare—must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghan horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.”

12 Strong hits theaters on January 19, 2018.
