Spider-Man: Far From Home – The Mysterio Twist That Didn’t Make It In The Film

If you’ve seen Spider-Man: Far From Home, then you know about the film’s twist involving Mysterio, and if you follow the comics, it’s likely you knew there was a twist coming before you saw the film. However, there was another twist on the table that ultimately got removed, and it had to do with revealing Mysterio to be a Skrull.

The film’s wtiters, Erik Sommers Chris McKenna recently spoke wit Collider and discussed the idea and said while they had lots of talks about it, it was never put down on paper. You can check out what the writers had to say below.

Sommer:

“There were some early, early versions of this movie where Mysterio was a Skrull… There were a lot of Skrull versions of the story early on. When you’re doing a con artist movie, what we finally landed on—we sat down and talked about how do we keep on fooling the audience, how do we keep on having a lot of fun reveals? How many distractions can we get away with before people want to murder us? [The Mysterio skrull reveal] was an early idea about why he was doing everything he was doing.”

McKenna:

“I don’t think it ever made it to paper, necessarily, but we talked about it for a while. But we talked about a lot of stuff. We spent a lot of time in a windowless room with [director] Jon [Watts], and the folks from Marvel and Pascal Pictures, just talking it through. That’s what it is, in those early stages. It’s just a lot of talk. Going down different roads and just gradually refining things until you have a story.”

As anyone who’s seen the film knows, there was a twist that revealed certain characters to be skrulls, in Nick Fury and Agent Maria Hill, so in my opinion throwing Mysterio into the mix as well would have been too much. However, had they went with Mysterio being a Skrull, this may have changed Fury and Agent Hill being revealed as Skrulls.

How would have felt if they would have went through with this idea? Let us know in the comments down below!
