Universal Plans for ‘Bruce Almighty’ Sequel with Jim Carrey

We may have the Almighty Bruce again.

According to Variety, Universal Pictures is in negotiations with the writing team Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel to pen a followup sequel to “Bruce Almighty.”

Paul and Mogel previously wrote scripts to “Hot Tube Time Machine” and “Yes Men.”

The trade paper also indicated the sequel will be developed for actor Jim Carrey to return for the sequel.

In the 2003’s “Bruce Almighty” film, a news reporter was given a chance to be God for a week. The film grossed over $242 million domestically in theaters and over $500 million worldwide.

In 2007, “Evan Almighty” was an indirect sequel to the film that starred Steve Carell.

Director Tom Shadyac directed both films, but no word on whether Universal Pictures has plans for Shadyac to direct a third film.
