Al Pacino to Voice Villain in ‘Despicable Me 2’

It’s a first for Al Pacino—he will make his animated film debut.

Deadline has confirmed Pacino will lend his voice as the villain in the upcoming animated sequel “Despicable Me 2” from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment.

The details of his animated character are not revealed at this time, except that he will be the nemesis to Gru (voiced by Steve Carell).

Pacino is well known for his live-action villain characters from Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” to Tony Montana in “Scarface.”

Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove and Russell Brand are also set to reprise their voice roles in the sequel.

“Despicable Me” grossed more than $543 million worldwide in 2010.

Directors Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin will helm the sequel from a script written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.

“Despicable Me 2” will be in theaters on July 3rd next year.
