‘Dracula Year Zero’ is Resurrected with Universal

Dracula is back from the dead.

Universal Pictures has revived the film “Dracula Year Zero” and is in talks with Gary Shore to direct.

The project was close to production with actors Sam Worthington in the starring role with Alex Proyas to direct, but shut down due to its large budget.

The movie’s storyline will be about Dracula’s origins as Vlad the Impaler.

Proyas left the project to direct “Paradise Lost,” which is now shut down by Legendary Pictures earlier this week. And studio sources told Deadline, Worthington is not involved with this Dracula project anymore.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote a new screenplay for the movie. And Michael De Luca is still on board as the film’s producer.

If Shore is signed for the project, then it would be his first directorial feature film. His only credit is from a short film called “The Draft.”
