Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Join Sci-Fi Cast of ‘Oblivion’

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is moving from fantasy to science fiction.

The “Game of Thrones” actor signed on to co-star in the Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi thriller “Oblivion.” He will star alongside Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko.

The story is based on Kosinski’s graphic novel set in the future where the human civilization is above the clouds and brutal alien Scavengers now stalk the surface ruins of Earth. A surface drone repairman crashed landed on the planet, in which he discovers a mysterious woman that forces him to question everything he knew.

Coster-Waldau will play Sykes, a military veteran and weapons expert. He currently stars in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” as Jamie Lannister, which will return on television on April 1st.

“Oblivion” will begin production next month in Louisiana.
