‘The Hunger Games’ Had a Good Easter Weekend Box Office Feast

It doesn’t look like “The Hunger Games” are going hungry this Easter weekend.

“The Hunger Games” took the top spot in the weekend box office despite a couple of contenders from comedy “American Reunion” and a 3D re-release of “Titanic.”

The film earned an estimated $33.5 million, a decrease of 42.8 percent from the previous weekend. Its total gross after three weeks is over $302 million domestically.

Universal Pictures’ “American Reunion” opened with nearly $21.5 million for the weekend’s second place. It’s a sequel to the “American Pie” franchise that reunited the original cast for a high school reunion. The cast included Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, John Cho, Jennifer Coolidge and Eugene Levy.

James Cameron’s 3D re-release of “Titanic” earned an estimated $17.35 million for third place. The film grossed a total of $25.71 million since its opening on Wednesday. The 1997 film starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as two young adults who fell in love on the ill-fated voyage of the RMS Titanic.

In rounding out the top five, “Wrath of the Titans” fell to fourth place with $15 million, a steep drop of 55.1 percent from the previous weekend. And in fifth place, “Mirror Mirror” earned $11 million, a decrease of 39.3 percent from the previous weekend.

For next weekend, a few movies will make their way to the theaters, including “The Cabin in the Woods,” “The Three Stooges” and “Lockout.”

So Happy Easter!
