The survival thriller earned $20 million for the top spot over the weekend. The film starred Liam Neeson and directed by Joe Carnahan. After a plane crash in Alaska, a group of survivors must fend off a pack of wolves in order to survive.
Lionsgate Films’ “One for the Money” opened in third place with $11.75 million. It opened better than expected from many film analysts.
The film starred Katherine Heigl as a bail bond bounty hunter. The film is based off the best-selling book written by Janet Evanovich.
In fifth place, Summit Entertainment’s “Man on a Ledge” opened with $8.3 million. The film starred Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie and Genesis Rodriguez.
The film is about a man who is threatening to leap off the edge of a building while a diamond heist is occurring at another location.
In rounding out the top five films of the weekend, “Underworld: Awakening” fell to the second place spot with $12.5 million. It was a decrease of 50.6 percent from the previous weekend. And “Red Tails” was in fourth place with $10.4 million, a decrease of 44.6 percent from the previous weekend.
Several films are making its premiere next weekend including “The Woman in Black,” “Chronicle,” “The Innkeepers,” “W.E.” and “Big Miracle.”
