Deadline has reported Muse Productions’ Chris Hanley will provide finance development for Paul Verhoeven’s “Jesus of Nazareth.” The movie is based off a book co-written by Paul Verhoeven, in which he personally researched about the son of God for the past two decades.
Writer Roger Avary will write the script adaptation for the movie. Avary won the Academy Award for the Best Original Script with Quentin Tarantino for “Pulp Fiction.”
Unlike other upcoming Bible-related movies like Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah” or Steven Spielberg’s “Moses,” “Jesus of Nazareth” will present an entirely different perspective about the son of God.
According to Deadline, Verhoeven discounted all the miracles that performed by Jesus Christ in the New Testament, which included the immaculate conception and the resurrection. He even theorized that Virgin Mary was raped by a Roman soldier and Jesus was simply a radical exorcist.
The film will not focus on the miracles performed by Jesus, but the enduring messages preached to Christians for the past 2,000 years.
Verhoeven will direct the movie himself. He is well known for directing several films including “Total Recall,” “RoboCop” and “Starship Troopers.”
So what do you think about his take on Jesus Christ?
