CinemaCon 2013 Warner Brothers Presentation Includes ‘The Great Gatsby,’ ‘The Hangover Part III,’ ‘Man of Steel,’ ‘Pacific Rim,’ ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ and More

wbWarner Brothers did not pull any punches for their presentation to the audiences of CinemaCon 2013 on Wednesday night.

The studio revealed their entire 2013 slate, which included “The Great Gatsby,” “The Hangover Part III,” “Man of Steel,” “Pacific Rim,” “300: Rise of an Empire,” “The Conjuring,” “We’re the Millers,” “Prisoners,” “Gravity,” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.”

In a video introduction, Baz Lurmann introduced “The Great Gatsby” with a long extended trailer which showed the romantic relationship between Leonardo DiCaprio’s Gatsby with Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan.

Director Todd Phillips showed up in person to re-show “The Hangover Part III” trailer to the audience. The trailer had been released earlier this month. He also remarked that his film will “not have a problem” going against “Fast & Furious 6” on May 24.

Then director Zack Snyder took the stage to reveal the brand new trailer for “Man of Steel” that appeared last night. The trailer showed the emotional aspect of the superhero movie. Click here to watch the trailer.

Director Guillermo del Toro was next to introduce a trailer for “Pacific Rim.” It was the same trailer that was revealed last month at WonderCon. It showed more scenes of giant robots fighting monsters.

And taped video of “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug” director Peter Jackson introduced a quick glance at Evangeline Lilly’s Tauriel, Orland Bloom’s Legolas, Luke Evans’ Bard the Bowman and Smaug itself.

Footages of Noam Murro-directed “300: Rise of an Empire” was shown to CinemaCon. Although Rodrigo Santoro’s Xerxes is the main bad guy, it focused more on his right hand general Artemisia (Eva Green). She showed off a lot of sword fighting skills against the Greeks. The footage also showed a lot of sea warfare and fighting from ship to ship.

For the first time, footage for the comedy “We’re the Millers” were presented to the audience. It revealed the plot of David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) recruited a stripper Rose (Jennifer Aniston), a street kid (Emma Roberts) and his son Kenny (Will Poulter) to create a fake family to smuggle a huge shipment of marijuana from Mexico.

The long footage included the Burke’s recruitment scenes; discovery of a large shipment of weed; Rose stripping for thugs; and a very hilarious scene of Kenny being bitten by a tarantula.

In possibly the biggest highlight of the night, the studio showed the first short teaser Alfonso Cauron’s “Gravity” to the audience. It showed the exploding space station from a meteor shower with Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) and Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock). The audiences gasped and wowed from the scene and watched Stone floating away into space darkness.
