Warner Brothers Cancels ‘Dumb and Dumber To’

dumb-et-dumber-1994-03-gWas it a dumb move? Or was it really a smart move?

The comedy sequel “Dumb and Dumber To” was dropped by Warner Brothers after years in development with New Line Cinema, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It doesn’t mean the project is dead…..yet. It opens an opportunity to shop the project to other studios.

The comedic duo Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will reunite to play Harry and Lloyd in the goofy comedy sequel of the 1994 movie. The original directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly will also be back at the helm.

The plot this time around is for the guys to find a kidney for Harry Dunne’s illegitimate daughter.

New Line did make a prequel with 2003’s “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.” But, we all would like to forget that movie.

According to THR’s several sources, the studio planned to allocate in the low $30-million range to produce this movie. However, another Carrey movie “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” did poorly in theaters by grossing $22 million domestically on a $30 million budget earlier this year.

If another studio picks up the tab, New Line will still get a licensing fee and a share of the back end.
