Now, before you get all excited thinking that there’s finally going to be a film adaptation of “Grand Theft Auto,” let me clarify- “San Andreas” will be a disaster movie that’s named after the actual fault line that exists beneath California.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that a deal has been inked between New Line and Dwayne Johnson for him to star as a rescue helicopter pilot on a quest to find his daughter after an earthquake ravages California. This would be the latest major role for Johnson who just finished a year where he starred in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “Fast & Furious 6,” and “Pain & Gain”- films with a cumulative box office haul of over $1.1 billion.
The film, directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2), will go before cameras next Spring and be released in 2015. New Line is said to want go all “Roland Emmerich” on steroids for this movie, and really make it epic. And the truth is, they’re going to have to. In 2015, there will be caped crusaders, Skywalkers, Avengers, dinosaurs, and more flooding the screens, so if this movie wants to stand out it’s going to have to really up the ante.
Johnson will next be seen in “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” and is currently filming “Fast 7.”
