Leaked Character Descriptions For Next “Star Wars”

starwars-

The BBC is reporting that Disney is planning open auditions for two lead roles for the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII.” According to the British outlet, the UK leg of the auditions will begin as soon as later this week. While it may seem like an unorthodox move, keep in mind that the original Star Wars films had relative unknowns in a few of their lead roles, so if this is true it demonstrates that the team behind this one is also interested in finding fresh faces.
I’ve looked at the descriptions that Disney are using for the two roles in question, and it’s important to note that they’ve cleverly wiped out any sci-fi references as well as changed the names, in order to keep it quiet that this is for a trip to a galaxy far, far away. Below are the breakdowns:
SEEKING A YOUNG WOMAN TO PLAY 17-18 YEAR OLD. MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, SMART AND ATHLETIC. OPEN TO ALL ETHNICITIES (INCLUDING BI AND MULTI RACIAL). MUST BE OVER 16
RACHEL- Was quite young when she lost her parents, with no other family, she was forced to make her way in a tough, dangerous town. Now 17 she has become street smart and strong. She is able to take care of herself using humor and guts to get by.
Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life. She is always thinking of what she can do to move ahead.
SEEKING YOUNG MAN TO PLAY 19-23 YEARS OLD. MUST BE HANDSOME, SMART AND ATHLETIC. MUST BE OVER 18
THOMAS- Has grown up without a fathers influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself, despite this he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities in life and understands that you can’t take life too seriously.
Personally, I have my doubts that these descriptions are legit. While transcribing it, I couldn’t help but notice some odd inconsistencies in the formatting of the casting notice. I also picked up on a few grammatical errors, and I would think that something being run by a company as polished as Disney wouldn’t have such amateurish issues in their casting notices. I also looked into the casting director’s Facebook, and I found it more than a little suspicious that they didn’t have a page at all until a little over a week ago (they joined FB on Oct 29th).
For what it’s worth, there will also be auditions for whatever this is held in the US this week, too. If any of you want to be a spy and try to attend, visit www.opencastingcall2013.com and try to get in. We’d love to hear about your experience.
Is this an elaborate hoax? Is it an audition for something totally different? Or is this, indeed, how Abrams and company intend to fill two pivotal roles in the next “Star Wars”? What do YOU think?
