CinemaCon 2013: The Walt Disney Studios Presentation for ‘The Lone Ranger,’ ‘Monsters University’ and More

WaltDisneyPicturesSpecialPoster The Walt Disney Studios believe they have The Avengers team of film companies at their disposal.

On Wednesday of CinemaCon, The Walt Disney Studios revealed the upcoming lineup for its company and subsidiaries including Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Disney Animation and DreamWorks.

The Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn introduced the audiences to a sizzle reel of its upcoming projects. In the sizzle reel, it gave us a quick first glance look into Maleficent, animated movie Frozen, The Muppets 2, Saving Mr. Banks, Finding Dory, Disney Nature’s Bears, animated movie Planes, Delivery Man.

During the presentation, the logos were shown for “The Good Dinosaur,” “Inside Out” and “Tomorrow.”

Other movies revealed in the lineup also included “Antman,” “The Avengers 2,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Fifth Estate, "Thor: The Dark World," Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

Horn said the studio is expected to busy with 14 to 15 pictures a year. And the primary goal is to produce at least eight tent pole movies a year. The main studios leading the charge will be with Marvel Studios with “two sensational movies a year.” And the big aggressive push will be LucasFilms’ Star Wars franchise, in which the studio will alternate every other year with an “Episode” film with a standalone film in the off-years.

Then “The Lone Ranger” producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski went on to the stage to say a few words about the masked hero. In a surprise to the audience, Bruckheimer brought Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp to the stage. The actors made a couple of jokes about Hammer’s height, but basically said “hi” to the audience.

Extended clips from “The Lone Ranger” were played for the CinemaCon audience. It included a train scene; Tonto being in jail; interaction between John Reid (Hammer) and Dan Reid (James Badge Dale); and Reid meeting Tonto for the first time after his death with the introduction of the mask.

To end the program, The Walt Disney Studios screened the entire movie of Monsters University to the attendees.
