'Godzilla' Getting Prequel Graphic Novel

– by LRM

godzilla-ss Legendary Pictures, which produced some high-caliber DC films, has opened up its own comic book studio. Legendary Comics is preparing to launch a graphic novel set in the world created for their upcoming reboot of Godzilla. It'll be a prequel that delves into something that's been eluded to in the trailers for the film. The quote "In 1954, we awakened something..." is now going to be given some exploration.

To pave the way for Godzilla's return to the big screen, Legendary Comics proudly presents the official graphic novel Godzilla: Awakening. Today, we are excited to reveal the King of the Monsters in all his glory, as we unveil the cover featuring exclusive artwork by acclaimed Godzilla artist Arthur Adams.

This 80-page story, set decades before the film, is co-written by Max Borenstein (screenwriter of the new Godzilla) and Greg Borenstein.

And here's the cover for the book:

Godzilla Graphic Novel Awakening

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Gareth Edwards directs "Godzilla," which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Kick-Ass"), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe ("The Last Samurai," "Inception"), Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche ("The English Patient," "Cosmopolis"), and Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn ("Good Night, and Good Luck.," "The Bourne Legacy") and Bryan Cranston ("Argo," TV's "Breaking Bad").

Godzilla: Awakening hits shelves on May 7, while Godzilla arrives in theaters on May 16.

Will you be picking up the book? What's your excitement level like for the new Godzilla movie? Personally, I still wish his face looked a little more fearsome.
