Yesterday during the D23 Expo: Live Action Panel attendees got to see the first trailer for Avengers Infinity War, and boy was it epic. The trailer started off with a montage of all the movies Marvel Studios has produced over the past 10 years leading up to this big moment. By now, for those of you who weren't in attendance have already read a description about the trailer and have an idea what it looked like. For a first release trailer Marvel Studios packed a ton of footage into this reel, and the list below are the five things we learned while watching the trailer.
5. The Cast Is Enormous
You are probably saying that I am an idiot for not already knowing this, but the size of the cast didn't really hit me until I saw a majority of our favorite heroes lined up on stage at one time. At the live action panel yesterday Kevin Feige introduce the cast members who flew to Anaheim to help introduce the trailer. Feige introduced the actors in order onto the stage, starting with Thanos himself Josh Brolin. After a thunderous applause Feige kept introducing actors in pairs or one at a time including Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Pam Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Don Cheadle, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and of course Robert Downey Junior. That wasn't even the entire cast on stage, and if you take a look at the photo above you can tell that having a cast this size is going to be one heck of a movie. It made us realize that this movie will be as epic as the first Avengers movie. The Russo brothers have probably the toughest job of all of getting enough screen time for all the characters without sacrificing the story.
4. The Hulkbuster Armor is back to take on Thanos
There is one thing clear in this trailer, Stark will be leading the first wave against Thanos and he is bringing everything he's got. In the trailer there were multiple shots of the Hulkbuster armor in action. It seems that by the time Stark faces off with Thanos he is informed of the power he is going up against. The shots went by quick, but you can tell that Stark has made some improvements on the Hulkbuster armor since his battle with Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Also, it looks like Tony has prepped his suits now for space travel as we see him in his armor on a foreign planet, something that he didn't have in the first Avengers movie.
3. Captain America and Black Widow are still on the run and donning new looks.
Cap has a beard and Black Widow has white hair. Steve had a small speaking line in the trailer and it seemed to hint that he was breaking Wanda and Vision out of a prison. Hiding in the shadows while he speaks he then appears without his mask on with a nice beard and it didn't seem to appear that Cap had a shield with him. It's safe to assume that Tony has not made that phone call yet to Steve for help.
2. Peter will be wearing the Iron Spider-Man suit to fight Thanos
Remember the Spider-man suit at the end of Homecoming that Tony presented to Peter offering him a spot on the Avengers. Peter reluctantly passes on the suit, and spot on the Avengers, but for those of you who are fans of that outfit you will love Infinity War. There was also a lot of speculation of how much Spider-man would Marvel use in this movie, and it seems from this trailer there will be a fair share of Peter in the movie. We see Peter in three main parts of this trailer: The first scene we see Peter on a school bus, and a close up of the hair on his arm standing up signaling his spider-sense that was missing from Homecoming. The second scene we see Peter in the Iron Spider suit teaming up with Iron-man, Thor, and the Guardians taking on Thanos. The final scene comes at the end of the trailer where Peter is defeated laying on his back after fighting Thanos apologizing to Tony. It will be interesting to see how much Spider-man is used in this film.
1. Even without all the Infinity Stones Thanos is pretty damn powerful
While we have seen in the more recent Marvel movies Thanos has taken it upon himself to get the infinity stones for his Gauntlet. There are some quick glimpses of Thanos with the gauntlet on while fighting and it seems that he is still missing quite a few of the stones. While it looks like that Thanos has three, maybe four, of the stones in the trailer he is an enemy that even with all the heroes lined up to take him on won’t be enough to take him down. The end of the trailer has an epic scene where we see Thanos standing over what seems to be a defeated team. He raises the gautlent up and takes command over a moon in the background thrusting it down onto the screen. After seeing this trailer you can tell that Marvel Studios is swinging for the fences of how big and bad Thanos will be.
