ORIGINAL STORY:

Who’d’ve thought that Hawkeye would still be a character we’d be talking about? He was the Avenger who got the least introduction prior to The Avengers (he only appeared in a brief scene in Thor), and since then, fans have been awaiting his inevitable death in the franchise. Of course, that day hasn’t come yet, and in Avengers: Age of Ultron, writer/director Joss Whedon gave a lot more for the character to do, and even performed a clever little bait-and-switch between him and Quicksilver.

So Hawkeye lived to see another day. When Captain America: Civil War rolled around, he was once again pegged as the most disposable Avenger on the slate who could die. And yet, he still lived — he was also an incredibly interesting aspect of the movie to watch. Between his more Han Solo-esque personality in the film, he also got to do the always-cool “shoot an arrow with Ant-Man on it” trick that was a definite crowd-pleaser.

Well, if you were a fan of that, it sounds like we may very well be getting more of it in the near future. According to Showbiz 411, Renner is set not only to reprise his role as Hawkeye in Avengers: Infinity War (and come on, we all knew that), but the upcoming Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Obviously there’s no word as to how he’ll play into the story, we very much appreciate the dynamic between him and Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, and look forward to seeing a lot more of that in the future.

Despite Hawkeye’s slow ramping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, I do appreciate that Marvel manages to sneak in these normal human characters every so often. They may not pack a punch compared to the rest of the group, but it does do a lot to keep the whole universe grounded, especially as the stakes and the scale of these movies get bigger. Believe it or not, I think Hawkeye will be around for the long haul, and who knows, by the time Infinity War is over, he may end up as a crowd favorite.

Or maybe someone else. Yeah, probably someone else.
