A GOONIE Joins The Cast For STRANGER THINGS Season 2

– by Drew Carlton

This was the year of Netflix rising to the cream of the crop in what I am now calling "Series Shows". We can't really call them "Network Shows" or "TV Shows" anymore, as everything from Netflix is watched on demand via an internet stream.

One of Netflix's best outings this year came from a show called Stranger Things which featured a cast of boys and one unique girl that delved into the world of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. D&D you say? Wasn't that the thing that in the late 70's and 80's that all parents rallied against because it was satanic? Yup, sure was. Yeah, so it turns out it was about as satanic as Game Of Thrones or The Lord Of The Rings, and people into this genre like myself simply call it: Fantasy. The creators of Stranger Things took one simple wizard spell from the fantasy AD&D world called Shadow Walk and basically made it into an entire enthralling series.

The show was a huge hit, and of course it was renewed for a second season, but today we find out that one special Goonie will be joining the cast for season 2.

In a report from hollywoodlife.com chronicling the Comic Con Fan2Sea cruise, we learn that Sean Astin (Goonies) will join the cast playing Winona Ryder's (the mom) boyfriend. David Harbour who plays Jim Hopper (The Police Chief) in the show gave the crew some information about Astin and the future of the show:

“We have Sean Astin… he’s Winona’s new boyfriend — much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police, it’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened, so there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what."

He stopped short after this, but it was enough. It sounds like the web of intrigue is being woven, and i will be happy to see where the series takes us.

Did you like Stranger Things? In addition, did you get the D&D reference? Was this Winona Ryder's "John Travolta Pulp Fiction" comeback moment? Let's hear it.
