Ben Affleck is currently out making the rounds to promote Gone Girl. The David Fincher film is all ready earning rave reviews, and Affleck- as its star- is getting getting a ton of spotlight shown onto him because of it. The actor is used to the attention, of course, and has grown accustomed to audiences having a fervent response to some of his cinematic choices. But when it comes to the film he's currently shooting, DC's epic Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor says nothing in his history prepared him for this level of hype.
"I can tell you that I’m very excited and it’s very exciting. I can tell you that in my entire career, I haven’t had so many people come up to me and say how much they’re looking forward to the movie," he told The Boston Globe in a recent interview. "Naturally, that’s a lot of pressure, but I love the script, I love the director, I love the studio," Affleck added. It was here that Affleck cut his comments short, though, citing that the film is still very far from being in theaters. "I’m very much looking forward to it, but it’s two years away so it probably doesn’t bear talking about anymore," he concluded.
So Affleck is hyped up. He knows there's a lot at stake here, with WB/DC depending on this film to serve as a launchpad for an entire slate of films based on comic book properties. This movie has to deliver the goods.
I still don't see how committing to this franchise does any longterm good for his career at this stage, but I'm sure the paychecks will take the sting off of "You won an Oscar and the respect of all of your Hollywood peers, and then you decided it'd be a good idea to prance around in a cape with bat-ears on your head for a few years? Ok, Ben..." comments.
