AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Patton Oswalt Returns To Get Tortured This Week In New Clip

Last week I did a review on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode “Wake Up” and one of our vigilant readers (Randomironicname) reflected on the status of Patton Oswalt’s characters, Agents Sam, Billy, and the deceased Eric Koenig, and wondered if they were actually LMDs (Life Model Decoys) or simply just siblings. Sure enough, one week later, Agents will focus on them in the episode called “Hot Potato Soup”. Check out the trailer and synopsis below the link!

“THE KOENIGS ARE BACK, AND THE FATE OF THE WORLD IS IN THEIR HANDS, ON ABC’S ‘MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ Patton Oswalt Returns as the Koenigs ‘Hot Potato Soup’ – Agents Sam and Billy Koenig (Patton Oswalt) are hunted down to get at the Darkhold book, and only Coulson and the team can save them before the clock ticks out, on ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ TUESDAY, JANUARY 31 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) ‘Hot Potato Soup’ was written by Craig Titley and directed by Nina Lopez-Corrado.”

In this scene we see a Koenig brother getting wheeled in front of Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah), the creator of the LMDs program, and the torturer clearly tells the two that they are going to die but they better talk first. A feisty Oswalt replies, “Cut off my fingers, eat my liver. It doesn’t matter — nothing you do is going to make me talk.” Dr. Radcliffe has a very humorous response and we are left to wonder just what the heck is going on here.

Judging by the fact that we see both of these actors on screen together, I would say that Oswalt’s characters are indeed LMDs and perhaps AIDA was not Dr. Radcliffe’s first creation after all. It is either that, another person was actually the inventor of the LMDs program, or ABC is doing a great job of leading us on — which is entirely possible. My gut tells me that there is a much larger connection between these two characters and it will be revealed, likely in the bonus scene of the episode, that the Koenigs are indeed androids. We do know that there have been three of them so far, and one of them joked that there were 13 in total.

I never thought I would say this about Agents but the second half of the season is shaping up to be one of my favorite comic book TV adaptations out right now.

The show airs tomorrow night and stars Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May and Android Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Mack, and of course the great John Hannah as Dr. Radcliffe.

Do you think the Koenigs are actually LMDs or are there simply 13 identical brothers? Let’s hear what you think!
