AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ROANOKE – Sarah Paulson’s ASYLUM’s Character Coming Back This Season

American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has been pretty vocal in the past year or so in wanting to connect the future seasons of the show to previous ones. It’s a strange concept for a show like this, as it’s thrived off its anthological nature. For the most part, a viewer can hop around from season to season of the show and not lose anything from the experience, other than little Easter eggs. Each year, we pretty much get a whole new story, and each year, we can expect to see the regular AHS cast come back to the show in a different role.

It’s fun, it’s fourth wall-breaking, and it’s different from what we’re used to seeing on TV. So how will this show start connecting its inner mythology given its format — and given that a lot of its cast play different roles in each movie? That’s the big question, and it’s one that we’ll be getting an answer to sooner rather than later.

In celebration of Halloween, Ryan Murphy took to Twitter to drop a bit of a bombshell, stating, “Sarah Paulson’s ASYLUM ultimate survivor LANA WINTERS returns this season on “AHS: ROANAOKE.” Happy Halloween.”

Check out the original tweet below:

So now, we kind of have to wonder how this will happen, given that Sarah Paulson’s character, actress Audrey Tindall, is alive right now in the current season of the show. Can we buy that Lana Winters exists in the same world as the Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell special? I think that’s a definite yes, but how can it make sense in this world? Is it strange to anyone that there are two women who look exactly the same?

If they show up on screen together, will the characters be as confused as new viewers of the show? Even if the showrunners decide to kill Audrey before re-introducing Lana, you still run the risk of confusing the characters and confusing the audience. There really seems to be no easy to way to tackle this problem. It’s with this in mind that I’ll be watching the last few episodes of this season with anticipation. The show’s been really good so far this season, and this upcoming reveal is one more reason to look forward to each coming week.

What do you think? How will the filmmakers handle this re-introduction of Lana Winters? Let us know your thoughts down below!
