During a behind-the-scenes video from the set of Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson revealed an interesting little tidbit. We've known for some time that the film would incorporate a few elements from the Planet Hulk comics, and now we've learned what another of those elements will be.
In Thor: Ragnarok, we're going to find Mark Ruffalo's Hulk engaged in gladiatorial battles orchestrated by Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster. In the books, Hulk encounters an alien named Miek who eventually helps him overthrow a regime on the planet Sakaar that is forcing beings from across the universe to fight for their lives in the aforementioned gladiatorial battles. In the set video, Waititi and Hemsworth revealed that Miek will be in Thor: Ragnarok.
We've been reporting for years that Marvel was looking to adapt the Planet Hulk story into a movie in one way or another, and with every new revelation about Thor: Ragnarok, we're learning exactly how much of that storyline is making its way into the threequel. There's no confirmation, of course, that Miek will be used the same way in the film as he was in those books, but it's an interesting connection nonetheless.
