Apple TV+ Gets November Launch Date And Price

Apple TV+

November 2019 looks to be the month that launches the new phase of the streaming wars. While Netflix has gone largely uncontested for nearly an entire decade, with the advent of direct-to-consumer streaming, that time is quickly coming to an end. Disney+ is set to hit consumers this coming November 12, and now it turns out Apple will be beating them to the punch with their own November 1 launch date for Apple TV+.

During a special Apple event on Tuesday, the tech giant revealed that date and also stated that consumers will be able to pick up the service for $4.99 a month, which would entail a family subscription. Additionally, anyone who buys an Apple device will get Apple TV+ free for a year. No word on if that applies to those already owning such devices (probably not).

That last part is key, as I’m sure it’ll be a way for them to help inflate their numbers for those first years of service. Unlike Disney, Apple is working with completely unknown and original I.P., so they have quite the uphill battle, in spite of the billions of dollars to their name.

“Our mission for TV+ is to bring the best original stories from most creative minds in TV and film,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told audiences. “Stories that help you find inspiration, grounded in emotion, stories to believe in, with purpose.”

In addition to Apple products, Apple TV+ will be available on other platforms like Samsung, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

Given how frustrated creatives have seemingly been working with Apple, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this to see how the first round of content ends up being for them. Will they be able to actually create stuff worth watching, or will it serve as proof that money doesn’t solve everything?
