Arrow Season 5 Finale Promises Death, Redemption, and an Epic Conclusion!

For five long years fans of the CW’s Arrow have watched and wondered how the show’s creators would complete the narrative circle of Green Arrow’s origin and Oliver Queen’s redemption. Each season of Arrow consistently juxtaposed events in modern-day Star City with flashbacks of his toils on the remote island of Lian Yu, with varying degrees of success. The preceding four Arrow season finales have both enthralled and frustrated the show’s hardcore base; from the heights of Season 2’s epic Deathstroke storyline to the lows of Season 4’s Damien Dahrk magical mystery tour. What should fans expect in the Arrow Season 5 finale?

WARNING: *SPOILERS* for Arrow: Season 5 Finale…

Arrow has long promised to drag Queen, played by actor Stephen Amell, into the deepest pits of hell in the Lian Yu flashbacks, so that his eventual escape from the island would truly earn him the mantle of Green Arrow. However, as even a casual observer of the show knows, Queen spent far less time on the island than we thought way back in Season 1… in fact, he’s been off the island far more than on as freedom fighter, ARGUS operative, and Russian Mafia captain.

Earlier this year we learned that not only would Arrow return for a sixth season and the flashbacks would finally (perhaps mercilessly) be retired. The great news for fans, Arrow Season 5 has represented a return to form from its first two fantastic seasons. Queen is finally becoming a true leader and Team Arrow (despite a LOT of questions early in the season) has gelled into a solid ensemble.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the Arrow Season 5 finale, will see the end of the fantastic Prometheus arc while also setting the table for next season. Team Arrow will be joined by a varitable who’s who of past seasons, including: Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law), and amazingly even Deathstroke/Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett).

According to Arrow‘s EP Wendy Merical:

“[Prometheus] has been trying to prove to the world, and to Oliver, that he’s not a hero, he’s a killer, and he’s going to pull out one final, big whamo at the end that’s going to leave Oliver reeling. We might lose some people.”

Prometheus has established himself as a super-villain on a par with Bennett’s awesome Deathstroke, so it’s incredibly exciting that both characters will be present during this final showdown. The stakes this season have been rising and rising, so the loss of another member of Team Arrow is to be expected, which is a shame since all have really grown into their roles. There are a few more episodes between now and the finale, and this season has proved that anything is possible, surprises are to be expected.

The Arrow Season 5 finale airs on the CW Network on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
