Baywatch 2 Is In The Works, Already Has A Story

The new film Baywatch opened this week, starring the hilarious duo of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Based on the series of the same name starring David Hasselhoff, the movie version has taken a very self-aware, tongue in cheek approach, not unlike the 21 Jump Street films. But is Baywatch a “one and done” film adaptation like Starsky and Hutch, or will it continue to follow the model set by the 21 Jump Street films? Do I even need to ask in Hollywood’s current climate?

Variety is reporting that not only is a Baywatch sequel planned, but there is already a story in place. Producer Beau Flynn told Variety:

“We have an amazing story already. We’re bringing back Shannon and Swift who wrote on the first one, and I know Dwayne would be in, I know Zac and all the girls would be. We just have this really cool idea to put them in this whole new world. We would take it overseas.”

So, Baywatch 2 actually sounds a lot like 22 Jump Street, not that there’s anything wrong with that. In the sequel to 21 Jump Street, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum moved on from highschool to college, just as the Baywatch crew is moving from protecting beaches at home to saving lives abroad. I’m going to guess there is a nude beach in their future…
