Benicio Del Toro In Talks To Join Shane Black's THE PREDATOR

– by Joseph Medina

In case you haven't heard, the Predator franchise is well on its way to getting itself rebooted. While 2010's Predators was a solid film, it didn't produce the financial results needed in order to justify a sequel or spinoff within that same continuity. In order to create the reboot they need, the studio has now turned to Shane Black, a writer and director who was once actually one of the stars in the original Predator film.

Black has obviously gone on to become a well respected filmmaker, creating such movies as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, and most recently, The Nice Guys, all of which were met with solid acclaim from both critics and fans (ignoring the whole Mandarin backlash ordeal). Last we heard, Black was hard at work on the script with Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker. The film still had a few months' grace period before any casting needed to happen, so there was no reason to expect any real announcement any time soon.

Now, according to Deadline, Sicario actor Benicio del Toro, is in talks to star in the Predator reboot, which is title The Predator, in an unspecified role.

Given the complete absence of information on this, it's hard to say much about this. We don't know a lot about what the movie is about other than it would be set in the present day, and that Arnold Schwarzenegger may pop up in it. In any movie, however, it's always a good sign when a talented actor hops on board, and as such, one could only read this news about del Toro potentially signing on to the film as good news.

As far as what type of role he could be...we can only speculate.

The Predator is set to hit theaters on March 2, 2018.
