BREAKING: Marvel Unveils Character Promo For THE DEFENDERS (Video!)

With Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage officially out of the way, that leaves only Iron Fist on deck for next year before we can finally say that we’ve met all of Marvel’s The Defenders. The crossover event, which will presumably do for Netflix what The Avengers did for Disney when that film made a huge splash in 2012, is entering production and Marvel has wasted no time getting the hype train out of the station. A new promo video reveals two supporting players that are expected to be a big part of The Defenders.

The official The Defenders twitter account just released this video, so check it out and then join me after:

The Strong Survive,” the promo says, before revealing that two prominent supporting characters from Daredevil and Luke Cage will be in The Defenders. The video ends with the tagline, “Those Who Surround Us, Define Us.”

The line makes sense considering how one of the running themes within the Marvel/Netflix shows is the way in which key people in the lives of our heroes help them discover their true purpose and teach them valuable lessons about themselves. Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page has loomed large in the onscreen backstory for both Daredevil and The Punisher at this point, while Simone Missick’s Misty Knight was a big part of Luke Cage‘s debut season.

A common theory is that one of the major supporting characters in the Marvel/Netflix shows is going to die, setting up The Defenders. Might it end up being Page or Knight? Or how about Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple? Are one of these characters possibly going to end up being for The Defenders what Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson was in the first Avengers movie?

Either way, the supporting players in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Universe are a big part of that ever-expanding mythology, and it’s cool to see that two of them are going to get a spotlight in The Defenders
