It’s all rather interesting. Last year seemed to be the year that video game adaptations would take over Hollywood. As we know, both Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed didn’t perform as well as everyone had hoped, and while that hasn’t done much to slow down anyone else from making any of their adaptations that are already in development, there certainly seems to be a lot less of a gung-ho attitude in the fan community. Assassin’s Creed was a property that should have been tailor made for the big screen, and instead we got something of a boring mess. Little did we know that a video game adaptation we’ve all been waiting for could have already been in development.

Over a year ago, producer Adi Shankar revealed he’d be working to get a Castlevania series off the ground. Things kind of disappeared for a while, and a couple weeks back, Netflix revealed that indeed the series would hit the streaming service in 2017. In true Shankar form, the producer went on to tout just how amazing the show would be.

“I’m personally guaranteeing that this is going to be the best fucking video game adaptation ever made to date … I’ve seen it, andit’s f**king amazing.”

Now, in a Facebook post, Shankar revealed a new poster for the series, which shows what we can assume is Dracula’s castle in all its dark and brooding glory.

Check it out below:

Specific details regarding the specific plot details are scarce, but if you’re a Castlevania fan, chances are you’re wondering how much of the show will involve a Belmont scaling that thing. Unlike Assassin’s Creed or Tomb Raider, Castlevania games tend to be minimalist when it comes to actual story, so it’ll be interesting to see how they adapted it.

The official synopsis for Castlevania is below:

“Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.”
