Cate Blanchett Set To Play Legendary Comedian Lucille Ball In Biopic

The Wrap has learned that two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett has been cast to play Lucille Ball in an upcoming biopic. The film is being made with the full authorization of Ball’s children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. It will supposedly chronicle her 20 year marriage to their father and I Love Lucy costar, Desi Arnaz.

Aside from attracting a star on the level of Blanchett, the project also has some firepower going for it behind the scenes as well. According to the site, the film will be written by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin is on a roll penning biopics as of late, as he won an Oscar for writing The Social Network about Mark Zuckerberg, and his Steve Jobs is set to come out on October 9.

Ball is a beloved figure in American pop culture, and this pairing of Blanchett and Sorkin is a strong indication that the film is being treated seriously.

What do you think of Blanchett’s casting? Or of Sorkin’s scripting?
