Coco Cracks $400 Million Worldwide

Coco has proven to be one hell of a surprise this film season. With films like Justice League not exactly lighting up audience’s imagination, Coco was a breath of fresh air. It was original, gorgeous, and packed to the brim with culture.

The result? A film that’s gone on to be the highest grossing film in Mexico ever, and Pixar’s highest grosser in China. However, that’s not to say it’s done perfectly. So far, it’s only made just over $136 million domestically. For some reason or another, not very many American audiences are heading out to see it (even though it’s been number one at the box office since its November 22 opening).

Regardless, the film sill passed another big milestone, taking in $400 million worldwide. Given the film’s $150 million to $200 million budget, this doesn’t sound particularly impressive (Justice League has cracked $600 million, and it’s considered a huge disappointment), but considering there are still over a handful of international markets to roll out into, there is plenty of opportunity for the film to inch its way to box office success.

If this film has proven nothing else, it’s that audiences worldwide can connect with the stories Pixar tells, even if not all Americans are eager to check it out.
