Several weeks ago, I shared with you a rumor that was making the rounds at the time that could have tantalizing ramifications for Game of Thrones fans. Today, I can happily confirm the core bit of news from that rumor.
WARNING: The Remainder Of This Post Contains *SPOILERS* Proceed With Caution!
In that original report, I shared with you that the actor who played Gendry- a bastard son of Robert Baratheon's- was spotted at the airport near one of the locations where Game of Thrones was filming for its upcoming seventh season. At the time, there was a possibility that Joe Dempsie was just visiting old friends on the set, but now we know much better.
Game of Thrones fan site Watchers On The Wall has shared a video that depicts Dempsie, as Gendry, in a scene with Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Davos (Liam Cunnigham), and some gold cloaks.
Below is the video of what they were filming on the Game of Thrones set, as well as a detailed breakdown from Watchers On The Wall of what they observed:
Davos and Gendry are together preparing the boat to leave when two gold cloaks approach. Davos demonstrates that the boat is innocently empty by pulling back the tarp. He appears to then bribe the gold cloaks, who turn to leave, but just then Tyrion appears. The gold cloaks see Tyrion and come back- perhaps they recognize him or suspect he’s Tyrion Lannister, the most famous dwarf in the world? Davos tries to talk to them again but but the guards are grabbing at their swords. That’s when Gendry intervenes, picks up his warhammer (!) from the boat and striking them down from behind. Then Davos, Tyrion, and Gendry push the boat offshore and get the hell out of dodge.
In my original report, I explained the potential storyline ramifications of Gendry's return. Feel free to go back to that report (which was linked earlier in this post), to see how pivotal a role Gendry might play in the upcoming season.
Game of Thrones returns next summer.
