Last week, we shared with you a description of some of the Spider-Man: Homecoming footage that Sony/Marvel brought to Brazil for CCXP. That description included the fact that Spider-Man was receiving a suit upgrade from Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) that would include the classic "web wings" that were a part of the earliest incarnations of his costume. At the time, we were promised that we'd get to see some of that footage for ourselves when the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming was released "soon."
Today we can report that every bit of that turned out to be true. The "web wings" are in; The sequence where he gets the upgrade and dons the newly-upgraded suit is in the trailer; and the trailer is coming out soon. How soon? Tomorrow night soon!
Check out the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer tease below, and join me to discuss a couple of notable details:
That was pretty damn cool, eh?
A couple things-
- That's Jon Favreau, reprising his role as Happy Hogan, getting in on the fun- which is just neat when you consider the fact that he's become a huge Hollywood director and didn't necessarily have to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It says something about the production that someone like Favreau, who kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it with Iron Man, would pop in for a cameo.
- Let's note that the new Spider-Man: Homecoming logo bears only the the MARVEL STUDIOS name above the title, and makes no mention of co-producer Sony. This further adds clarity to the idea of who is really in control of this film, despite the fact that Spidey is still technically Sony's property.
- What's up with the first-person perspective? Is that going to be a big part of the movie? Personally, I hope not. It felt somewhat gimmicky here, and I kind of hope it was just for the tease. How would you feel if the first-person perspective was going to be a major part of the visual storytelling in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
Are you psyched for the release of the full trailer tomorrow night?
