Cyborg Will Have A Pivotal Role In JUSTICE LEAGUE

If there is one outlier in the upcoming Justice League movie, it’d be rather easy to point to Cyborg. Unlike the other members, not very many folks outside of comic fans actually know much about him. Even Aquaman, who is largely seen as a joke for those not in the know, has a much stronger brand recognition than Cyborg. So in recent months, as the DC Extended Universe has slowly seemed to break apart (with Flash undergoing a page one rewrite and The Batman losing director Ben Affleck), it seemed inevitable that the one to suffer could ultimately be Cyborg.

LRM lead editor Mario-Francisco Robles has been saying for years that even though Cyborg is slated to have his own film, he believes it’ll never actually happen. With even the most recognizable character films having a hard time in development, it seems almost inevitable that Mario’s statement could be proven right. How could they hope to even try a Cyborg film when they can’t get Flash off the ground?

We seem to be discounting one big possibility here, and that’s that Cyborg could very well steal the show in this year’s Justice League. Remember how everyone’s least favorite Avenger, Hulk, had zero momentum going into Avengers, but when that flick came out, no one could shut up about how cool he was? That could very well be Cyborg in Justice League.

So where’s the evidence?

In the latest issue of Total Film (via Heroic Hollywood), they discuss the MacGuffins in the story: the Mother Boxes. Not unlike the Infinity Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these Mother Boxes, which are alien technology from the planet Apokolips (yeah, we’re going full geek here), are something Justice League baddie Steppenwolf is hoping to reclaim from the Earthlings.

“These Mother Boxes are best when they work in threes,” producer Charles Roven stated. “The Amazonians and the Old Gods came together and decided that based on an event that happened, these Mother Boxes were going to be placed in the care of the Amazonians, the Mankind and the Atlanteans.”

What about the third one?

Enter Cyborg.

If you’ll recall from Batman v Superman, the surveillance footage we saw showed a Mother Box splitting apart and forming itself onto Victor Stone (Cyborg), saving his life. In a way, this can be compared to how one of the Infinity Stones gave life to Vision. So at some point in the story, Cyborg actually being the third Mother Box is likely to rear its ugly head, putting him at the center of the plot.

Now that being said, this only really seems to confirm that he’ll be integral to the plot, and in no way actually implies that the story will do a good job of developing before all the bad stuff happens. However, given that he’s a character that director Zack Snyder desperately needs to develop properly before he’s in danger, we’re hopeful they’ll be able to do just that.

What do you think of this news? Are you looking forward to seeing Cyborg (hopefully) steal the show in Justice League?

If this movie pans out well for him, do you think Warner Bros may very well push up the Cyborg movie? Let us know your thoughts down below!
