Going into last year's STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, some (myself included) were concerned that actress Daisy Ridley would be able to carry a film with such a rabid fanbase behind it. She'd never been in a Hollywood film before, after all, and even if she had the acting chops, who's to say she wouldn't choke under the pressure. Luckily for us fans, she did no such things, and not only did she manage to successfully carry the film, but she became one of its highlights.
Following the movie's release, it seemed clear that Daisy Ridley was someone who'd be in the business for some time. The only question was where she'd take her career next. She quickly hopped on a couple of lower budget films, and it wasn't long after that she was rumored to be taking on the role of video game character Lara Croft. This could've been another great role for her, but ultimately it went to (the also amazingly talented) Alicia Vikander. But with a talent like Ridley, there'd undoubtedly be another big role for her coming down the pike.
Now, based on a report from THR, it sounds like she may have found another big vehicle. According to the outlet, Ridley is set to star Lionsgate's adaptation of the post-apocalyptic YA book series CHAOS WALKING. Admittedly, the genre is one that seems to be nearing the end of days -- between the failed ALLEGIANT, THE FIFTH WAVE, and the underwhelming SCORCH TRIALS, it seems like interest is waning for these movies.
However, the talent behind the camera seems to indicate that CHAOS WALKING may indeed be something special. The man penning the screenplay for the flick is none other than Charlie Kaufman (who gave us such films as ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and ADAPTATION), and standing up direct is Doug Liman (who directed THE BOURNE IDENTITY and more recent and amazing EDGE OF TOMORROW). Let's hope between all these talented folks that they're able to make this film amazing.
I'm personally not too familiar with the property, but here's the plot synopsis courtesy of the folks over at Amazon:
"Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him -- something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is."
