Daisy Ridley On The Rey-Kylo Ren Dynamic In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

2017’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought with it a lot of questions. What is the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren? Are these two merely different sides of the same coin, or can we expect them to change sides as we make our way through the new trilogy?

The latest trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi also teased this strange dynamic between these two Force users, with Kylo Ren seeming to hold out his hand to her in a show of friendship and potential mentorship. Of course, this relationship of questionable loyalties is no accident, and it very much looks to bring more attention to those two.

Speaking with USA Today, actress Daisy Ridley spoke on these characters, saying:

“These are two people who represent two very different sides of life, good and evil. That’s going to be explored more in this.”

Sadly, this isn’t a lot to work off of, and while Rey was the protagonist of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we saw the possibility for both her and Kylo Ren to switch sides. This is especially the case since Kylo Ren is actively fighting his kinder instincts. While it’s likely the two will stick to their own respective sides of the Force, given the franchise’s track record, we hope that they’ll have the courage to do something more interesting.

We’ll be keeping an eye on these two in the next film, for sure.
