Daniel Craig Up For Playing Bond Again After All?

Daniel Craig certainly seems to have a strange relationship with James Bond.

While promoting Spectre, the latest flick in the long-running franchise, Daniel Craig famously stated some pretty horrendous things about playing the role: that he would rather slash his wrists than doing another film was the one quoted most often.

Speaking at the New Yorker Festival last Friday, Craig addressed these statements

“They say that s**t sticks, and that definitely stuck. It was the day after filming [finished on Spectre]. I’d been away from home for a year.”

Apparently, when he’d done that interview, all the time spent away had taken its toll on him and his morale. Now in hindsight, Craig seems a lot more forgiving of the character, and cognizant of the fact that he’s in an enviable position in the industry.

“Boo-hoo. It’s a good gig. I enjoy it.”

But does this mean we can expect a new James Bond film from him? Last we heard, the studio was willing to back up a literal dump truck full of money to bring him back into the franchise into a transitional role for two more films before he passes the baton on to another 007 agent — presumably James Bond, but I’m still not sure how that would work, as Bond is a literal character, not a codename.

In regards to more Bond, it didn’t sound like they were actively working on a new one, but at the same time, Craig didn’t sound as though he was ready to give it up just yet.

“Everyone’s a bit tired. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve got the best job in the world. I’ll keep doing it as long as I still get a kick out of it.”

“[…]

“If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly.”

So there you have it. It sounds like there’s the potential for Daniel Craig to finish the franchise strong, after all. The films Craig has done for the franchise have been a bit hit-or-miss. While he’s generally been praised in the role of James Bond himself, two of his movies have been deemed less-than-satisfactory by fans and critics alike. Given how genuinely interesting Craig’s flawed take on Bond is, fans have been hoping he’d be given the opportunity to go out on more of a high note than Spectre allowed him.

What do you think? Do you want to see Craig back in the role of James Bond, or do you think it’s time for us all to move one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
