David Koepp Confirms He Is Back Writing Indy 5 Again

Starfield director Todd Howard gives a small update on the progress of Elder Scrolls VI and Indiana Jones Games coming from Bethesda.

Just what the heck is going on with the fifth Indiana Jones movie, which we are simply calling Indy 5 for now? Firstly we heard that David Koepp was writing this and fans were not overly thrilled since Koepp penned the worst Indiana Jones movie to date Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Then it was Jonathan Kasdan, son of Lawrence Kasdan who wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark, and After that we heard that that Tangled writer Dan Fogelman was taking over the reins. Then, there was nothing about Indy 5 for a long time.

Recently, writers of A Quiet Place, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods said that Lucasfilm had approached them about taking on Indy 5, but they were not interested at that time. Now we hear from David Koepp in a recent interview with Den Of Geek that he is back on the project.

“I actually am again. I’m working on it again. We’re still trying. And I think we’ve got a good idea this time. We’ll see.”

You do get the feeling that writers are having a tough time breaking a good story for Indy 5 and to be honest I’m not too surprised. For one, it’s a classic franchise which currently has a hell of a lot more good movies, than bad movies (three to one), however, it also has some problems that are frankly due to the age of star Harrison Ford.  If people were tasked with writing an Indiana Jones sequel a couple of years after The Last Crusade was released, I doubt they’d be having the same issues. How do you properly do an Indy 5 with Harrison Ford now 77 years of age?

Ford and my Father share the same date of birth and I see my Dad now as an old man really, long retired from work. Is it believable to fans that Indy is still winning fights and cracking whips in his 70’s? Not only that, but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sort of left things as Jones retiring, possibly to pass the fedora onto his son Mutt. However, the way fans reacted to that story and the fact it seems unlikely Shia LaBeouf will be returning, puts any writer in a tricky position to start from.

So for now Koepp is back on Indy 5, but who knows when or if it will ever start shooting now? Share your thoughts on this in the usual spot below.
