DC Extended Universe: WB Wants To Shoot One More Film In 2017 Other Than Aquaman

The DC Extended Universe is in a state of re-repair right now. In 2016, they came out of the gates running, with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad both hitting theaters on schedule, and with Wonder Woman and Justice League still scheduled to hit their release dates, 2017 looks to be a pretty solid year for them as well. The years after that, however, are kind of a big question mark. The Flash and The Batman have both been delayed indefinitely, and the announced slate beyond Justice League has been scattered into disarray.

It’s important to note that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Yes, they may be off-schedule, but if they actually take the time to think their strategy through before putting out, there’s a better chance they end up with better-received films in the future. As it stands, it looks like Aquaman will be the only film on their slate shot in 2017 and released in 2018.

For now.

According to Variety film reporter Justin Kroll, Warner is looking to shoot another film this year, with an eye towards releasing it in 2018. Here are two of his tweets.

Now, our knee-jerk reaction of that is a resoundingly negative one. Warner Bros was overzealous when they announced their DC slate back in 2014, and as a result, they’ve had to reshuffle, re-arrange, and delay films on their schedule as it is. Plus, given how lukewarm the response has been to their world so far, the last thing they need to do is rush out another film just to meet some schedule that was made at random to begin with.

If you were worried about them rushing things out, you may not have a reason to do so yet, for while Warner Bros will try to make this happen, it seems as though they’ll be willing to let it go if it’s unrealistic.

So the one big question to come out of this what film could they possibly hope to shoot anywhere near soon? Given the buzz surrounding films like Gotham City Sirens and Suicide Squad 2, but given how little has been revealed, it’s impossible for us know how far along the scripts are. We’ll have to wait and see if Warner Bros is able to fast-track something fairly soon.
