Early last year, 20th Century Fox took a risk on the more comedic, low-key superhero Deadpool. Unlike many of the other superhero films, Deadpool was a real fourth wall-breaker, who wasn’t afraid to drop a few choice four-letter words. In many ways, it was a test to see if a comic book movie could survive on an R rating.
The gamble paid off for Fox, and Deadpool hit it big at the box office, taking $750 million off its low budget of around $50 million. For Deadpool 2, director Tim Miller stepped down, only to be replaced by John Wick’s David Leitch. Despite the minor shakeup, the film seemed to be in good hands. Plus, with Zazi Beetz and Josh Brolin cast as Domino and Cable, respectively, it seems to be on track to hit its June 1 release date.

Some accounts have also shared set photos for the first day of production, and in it, Deadpool seems to be doing some real Deadpool s**t by crashing a kid’s birthday party.

The film is less than a year from hitting theaters, but right now, we’re already feeling a bit impatient. With the film still so far away, it’s bound to be some time until we see something — unless Fox surprises us at some early footage at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. We’ll have to wait and see.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
