DOCTOR STRANGE Gets (Surprise) PG-13 Rating For…”Other-Dimensional Psychotropic Violence”?

It’s pretty much a given for any superhero movie nowadays that isn’t aiming for some sort of R-rating publicity will be rated PG-13. It’s been the case for every Marvel Studios film so far, and for every DCEU film so far. The few exceptions have been those few that pride themselves on that rating, like, say DEADPOOL.

As such, it doesn’t didn’t really come as a huge surprise when DOCTOR STRANGE director announced via Twitter that the film would be rated PG-13. What was strange, however, was what he wrote, and how he wrote it.

For those who are upside-down-impaired, the text reads:

“Rated PG-13 For kaleidoscopic galactic intensity and other-dimensional psychotropic violence.”

In addition, for those who don’t frequently use the word psychotropic, it is defined by Google as “relating to or denoting drugs that affect a person’s mental state,” which is pretty much what everyone says about the comic every time it’s brought up in a conversation.

I’m pretty certain it’s a given that the actual rating won’t give that same definition Derrickson gave his Twitter followers, but we can dream, can’t we? Whatever the rating description is from the MPAA, I can confidently say I’m looking forward to walking into the theaters this November and getting my mind blown worse than when I saw the SPEED RACER movie for the first time. Between the cross-dimensional travels, bending of the earth, and overall mysticism, I’m fairly confident I’ll come out of it all sufficiently dazed.

DOCTOR STRANGE hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
