Dolph Lundgren Joins The Cast Of Aquaman

Warner Bros. Pictures hopes to start production on Aquaman in May. As the date approaches we have a good idea of the cast for the film. As everyone knows Jason Mamoa will be starring as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, alongside Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as his half brother Orm aka Ocean Master, and Nicole Kidman as his his mother Atlanna Other important characters that have been cast are Dr. Vulko who will be played by William Dafoe, the vengeful Black Manta played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and his father Tom Curry played by Temuera Morrison.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that another actor has joined the cast of James Wan’s production of Aquaman, Dolph Lundgren. Most recently he has appeared on CW’s Arrow as Konstantin Kovar. But is he well known for his role in the Expendables franchise as well as Rocky IV. In Aquaman he will be portraying a fairly new character to the comic book world named King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel.

King Nereus first appeared in comics in 2013 during an arc called the “Death of a King” in Aquaman #19 written by Geoff Johns during DC Comics’s New 52 run. Being that Mera was once herself a Xebel, Nereus claims her for himself and is trying to kill Aquaman. Later he appeared in another arc called “Rise of the Seven Seas”, where he is looking to partner with Orm.

This is an interesting addition to the cast as there are already two villains who have been cast Ocean Master and Black Manta. In my opinion this could be a situation where Orm and Black Manta search out King Nereus to try and take down Aquaman. This in my opinion would give Mera a bigger role in the film as she would probably be the key to defeating Nereus. I think this would make it a great story as I am a big fan of the relationship between Mera and Aquaman.

Hopefully with the production starting soon, we can get more information about the plot of the film. Overall I am very excited to finally see the often ridiculed King of Atlantis make is lead debut on the big screen. For now let’s enjoy his on screen debut in Justice League this fall.

Justice League will hit theaters November 17, 2017.
