DON’T BREATHE Director And 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE Writer To Collaborate On INCOGNITO Adaptation

While much has been said about the disappointing slate of blockbuster films this year, horror fans have certainly made out like bandits. In the first half, we were treated to the surprisingly good horror/thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, the spiritual successor to the 2008 original. More recently, fans got to experience Don’t Breathe, another horror/thriller about a blind man kicking the asses of his would-be home invaders.

Both films exceeded expectations of quality, and fans are undoubtedly ready to follow the talent behind each of those films. Well, according to THR and Collider, Fede Alvarez, the director of Don’t Breathe, and Daniel Casey, one of the writers of 10 Cloverfield Lane (who I’m assuming was an uncredited rewrite for the the film), have signed on to direct and write, respectively an adaptation of the comic entitled Incognito.

Here’s what THR had to say about the source material:

“Incognito told of a super villain who turns evidence against his boss, ending up in a witness protection program in which he’s administered drugs to suppress his powers and given a low-level job. But the man starts to chafe under his “normal life” and when he finds a way to get his powers back, must decide what kind of life he wants to lead.”

Given Alvarez’s track record of solid films such as Evil Dead (not to mention the short that put him on the map, “Panic Attack”), I can trust that we could be getting something pretty cool. Daniel Casey isn’t someone I’m incredibly familiar at this point, but in addition to his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane, the rising scribe also has a couple specs out, so we can only guess that he either has some real talent, or is just a complete pleasure to work with.

Unlike the standard Marvel or DC fare, Incognito is a comic that only certain fans will recognize, and as such, it’ll give the filmmakers a lot of latitude in which to work. I don’t expect an incredibly traditional tale to hit the big screen with this one! Let’s hope this pair reaches for the stars and is able to get another grounded crowd-pleaser!
