Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver “TeKillYah” Trailer Is As Stylish As The Film Promises

Edgar Wright is one of the most consistently amazing writer/directors working today. His major theatrical releases, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World haven’t all been smash hits, but they are all stylish as hell with ingenious dialogue, loving satire, and a jokes-per-minute quota that is hard to match. Wright’s films perfectly capture the feel of whatever genre he tackles, from his well-crafted scripts to his quick and unique editing style making his parodies of zombie and buddy cop movies love letters to the films Wright loves. Wright also writes to the music he picks for the film’s soundtrack, allowing his music choices to be just as important to his films as those James Gunn hand-selects for the music heavy Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Wright’s latest film, Baby Driver, appears to be no exception to this rule by lovingly embracing the robbery/getaway car genre with no lack of style along for the ride. Check out the latest trailer for Baby Driver above.

Kevin Spacey’s Doc sums up exactly what Wright is shooting for in the trailer:

“People love great bank robbery stories, so let’s give them something bold and brazen as F*<!, to talk about over their lattes.”

I’ll grab my latte now! I’m very impressed with the latest trailer, as though I’ve been looking forward to this movie since before it started shooting, due to Wright’s reputation and involvement, the first two trailers were a bit of a let down. This latest one, however, captures the feel of exactly what an Edgar Wright film should be like, from the music, to the stylish cutting, and the car chases — that a friend who saw footage at CinemaCon said are second to none.

Yes, Baby Driver does currently have 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that’s with only 23 reviews, as the film is weeks away, and most outlets have not seen it. Don’t expect it to drop below 80, or even 90%, but there’s no way Baby Driver will stay at 100% once the hundreds of following reviews are tallied later this month.

Baby Driver stars Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Berthhal, Eiza Gonzalez, and Ansel Elgort as Baby. The official synopsis is as follows:

After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

Baby Driver races into theaters on June 28, 2017.
