Exclusive Interviews with Cast of Napoleon Dynamite at Statue Unveiling

Gosh! Has it been 10 years already?

Fox Home Entertainment reunited the cast of “Napoleon Dynamite” for its 10th Anniversary Napoleon Dynamite Blu-ray and a statue unveiling at the Twentieth Century Fox lot in Century City.

The cast in attendance included Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Efren Ramirez (Pedro), Diedrich Bader (Rex), Tina Majorino (Deb), Sandy Martin (Grandma), Haylie Duff (Summer Wheatly), Sondrella Avery (Lafawnduh) and director Jared Hess.

The cast answered a few questions on stage in front of selected guests and members of the press. On the lot, attendees could interact with Tina the Llama, sit in Rico’s van, create arts and crafts and take a cool commemorative Napoleon Dynamite photo.

Latino-Review was at the presentation and had a few exclusive interviews with the cast.

Heder told us that he was surprised that “Napoleon Dynamite” was going to be that big ten years ago while on production.

“We didn’t. We never knew when we were shooting it. We had no idea. It wasn’t until like almost a year later it was going to be in Sundance. So our first clue was that it had a chance.” Heder explained. “When we were shooting it, honestly, we thought the only people who were going to see it are probably our close friends, family and select audiences at a few film festivals. And that’s it. There are no named stars and it looks weird. And the main guy looks like an anger butthole.”

After ten years, some of the actors liked the attention that “Napoleon Dynamite” garnered from re-acting and quoting scenes to the stars of the film.

“It’s awesome. It’s an incredible feeling to get to do on what you love and have people responding to it in that way. It’s the ultimate for people to quoting your movie,” said Duff.

Duff, however, couldn’t identify her personal favorite quote from the movie.

“I have so many. I love the tater tot quotes. I love the ‘Eat your food Tina’ quote. I love the ‘With me it will be summer all year long’ quote. I love the dancing in it. For me, the beginning to the end of the movie has a special place in my heart,” explained Duff.

And Ramirez is a big fan of his own movie. Like many fans who have watched the film multiple times, we asked Ramirez on how many times he watched it.

“I would say about fifty times. Maybe,” laughed Ramirez. “Is that enough? Dakota Fanning told me she watched it 37 times. And she said, ‘And it’s like it’s still not enough.’ Yeah, it’s not enough.”

Ramirez continued on why he still loved the movie after all these years.

“I have the special edition of the DVD. I have the original t-shirts back at my house. One day, when I do have kids, I will be giving it to them when they see it,” he explained.

With the bronze statue of Napoleon Dynamite was unveiled, it was a wonder if the other favorite iconic character, Pedro, from the movie will get one too.

“By having a statue of Napoleon Dynamite is already enough. He’s wearing the flippin’ t-shirt that says Vote for Pedro. So if you don’t know who Pedro is then you got problems. To me that I was involved in something good, there are that passion and the love from this production,” humbled Ramirez.

The 10th Anniversary Edition of “Napoleon Dynamite” is available on Blu-ray now.
