Fargo Season 3 Synopsis & Release Date Revealed! Rejoice!

I just finished a Top 5 piece earlier today on the returning TV series I most wanted to see this year. I could not give too much information on Fargo Season 3, simply because there were few details at the time. FX has given us some much needed updates (via Screen Rant). The actual release, and yes the show is airing later than normal due to scheduling and quality assurance, is Wednesday, April 19.

However, the synopsis is what is key here:

Set in 2010, the third installment of Fargo centers on Emmit and his slightly younger brother Ray Stussy (Ewan McGregor). Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge. Carrie Coon stars as “Gloria Burgle,” the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her, where people connect more intimately with their phones than with the people around them. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Ray’s girlfriend, Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge. David Thewlis stars as V.M. Vargas, a mysterious loner and true capitalist whose bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether The Parking Lot King likes it or not.

The biggest misconception thus far, prior to this synopsis, is that Ewan McGregor will not be actually playing twins, but instead brothers with varying ages. There will definitely be some major makeup work involved here, but McGregor is a great actor and I have zero doubts of his ability. Carrie Coon has also showed her skills in both Ben Affleck’s Gone Girl, and in HBO’s The Leftovers, so I am confident she will be spectacular. She seems to be playing the typical police investigative role, known so well to the Fargo franchise.

I am not sure that I am a fan of the timeline they are going for here, as I loved the ’70s and ’80s takes on Fargo, and being a Linux user and someone that only uses social media when I have to for work, it will be interesting to see if I can stay involved. But, this is Fargo, and they have never let me down.

V.M. Vargas smells like the big bad here, and if you check out the actor portraying him, David Thewlis, on IMDB, one can easily see how he could fit the typical “evil Fargo” role.

Another interest for me personally is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who may be the must underrated actress in Hollywood. In my opinion, she should be up there with Emma Stone and and Jennifer Lawrence. In 10 Cloverfield Lane, she was phenomenal and I truly hope this show vaults her to one of the top actresses in the business. And yes, she is gorgeous, sue me.

We are actually less than two months away! Is anyone here as excited as I am for the return of this show? Let’s hear from ya!
