Earlier this week, we reported on the news that Universal would be delaying Fast & Furious 9 from April of 2019 to April of 2020. Unfortunately, there was no disclosed reason as to why this delay was taking place, but now actor Tyrese Gibson has revealed through an Instagram post that he believes Dwayne Johnson is to blame.

Here’s what Gibson had to say in the post:

“#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I’m just a passionate film critic”

Initially, we thought it may have to do with the feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, but we know now that that isn’t the case.

TheWrap is now reporting that a Hobbs and Shaw spinoff, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is set for July 26 of 2019. On board to write the script is Chris Morgan, who’s written every Fast & Furious film since Tokyo Drift, so you can bet that it’ll still have that trademark style we’ve grown to love.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see a Hobbs and Shaw spinoff? Let us know down below!

Yeah I’m excited. I’ve liked all the films in the series, silly as they may be they’re so much fun and somehow seem to have real heart. Statham and Johnson are simply awesome charismatic action stars. The script could suck, but I think both actors are such veterans that they’d step in and ensure a good product comes out of this project.

The Rock’s arm is the size of Statham
