Fate Of The Furious Trailer Reaction: Pure Dumb Fun

Let’s be real here. No one is going to The Fate of the Furious to witness Shakespeare. Most of the joy that’s mustered from these Fast and Furious films comes from the amount of popcorn consumed. It’s fun, harmless, turn-off-your-brain kind of fare, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Despite it’s silly, ridiculous premise, when the first trailer hit, I was pretty much sold. Between the wrecking ball tearing through some of the cars, and Dominic’s turn on his “family,” it was hard not to get caught up in the Michael Bay-friendly hijinks that were bound to ensue.

It’s with that in mind that I walked into this next trailer. I wanted mindless, high-octane action, and that’s exactly what I got. From the instant we see Dwayne Johnson pick up a grenade and throw it away, I knew I was on board. That escalated when I saw Jason Statham and Johnson kick ass in a prison scene, and it went into the stratosphere when I saw Johnson deflect a torpedo and kill their pursuers. You really have to respect when a franchise is able to get out of its own way to become even more ridiculous than you average superhero flick.

There was even a part of the trailer, where Diesel dons some suit as he saws his way into a car, where I thought they’d be taking the whole superhero deal to the next level, so I’m interested to see what comes of that. Be sure to check out my reaction above, if you haven’t!

The synopsis for the Fate of the Furious is below:

“Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

“From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.”
