Fear the Walking Dead S2 E10 “Do Not Disturb” Review

We get “The Walking Dead’s” version of “The Red Wedding”.  Last week when Madison and the group made it to the hotel we just assumed that the hotel guest were overrun by the infected.  Little did we know that the hotel was overtaken from inside the hotel.  We get the ultimate cliché with the father of the bride have a fatal heart attack and quickly change into a zombie right when he is being huddled by people doing CPR.  It is then we see that the hotel manager Elena makes the decision to lock the wedding party in the reception hall.

After two episodes the story of Travis and Chris picks back up with a father and son trying to figure out how to survive together.  Travis is holding out hope that Chris is not too far gone.  With that hope he plans to wait out with his son until he becomes normal and then regroup with Madison and the rest of the family.  As this episode progressed we can see that there is little hope that Chris will ever be able to return to the group.  Chris’s character since the first episode has been holding anger towards Travis for how his life turned out.

In the middle of the episode we are introduced to three young college guys trying to make their way back home from Spring Break.  The “Bro-migos” are a mixed bag who Travis doesn’t trust at all while Chris sees the potential of sticking with them.  This is an issue that divides the father and son of how to spend the rest of the apocalypse out.  As the episode progressed Chris becomes so headstrong that he is not willing to even listen to his father.  This is when we realize that Chris is gone. We get that one true pivotal scene when Chris kills the farmer who was trying to protect his home in cold blood.  That scene where Travis finally realizes his son is gone is one of those classic “The Walking Dead” moments that we have come to known very well.

While she was not the main focus of the episode Alicia’s story arc continued to show her strength as a person this week.  Splitting the majority episode with Travis and Chris we got to see her become calmer and collected when under stressful situations.  Alicia is locked in a hotel room from last week without Ofelia and has to figure out to get to her mom.  It is not until Elena does save Alicia, that we see any hope for Alicia.  The rest of Alicia’s story this episode was very slow until the end when she reunited with her mother after fearing she had turned.

I think it is safe to assume that Ofelia is going to make a grand surprise back into the group.  With a mysterious exit last week majority of viewers believe that Ofelia has either ran away or been kidnapped.

Overall this episode was saved by the final two minutes of the show where we see Madison and Alicia’s reunion and ultimately Chris’s big turn to killing humans as well as zombies.  Without this ending this episode would have been forgotten.  The big positive from the second half of the season has been the writing.  Since the group has split up the writers have been able to really explore the characters at a deeper level.
