First Footage From Disney XD’s New Spider-Man Series Features Peter’s Homemade Suit From Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man! Spider-Man! Everyone wants more Spider-Man!

2017 marks the fifteen year anniversary of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man film, and will see the release of a new movie featuring the third iteration of the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having already appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the latest, (nearly) high-school age appropriate Peter Parker this July. To celebrate, and help cross-promote the new film, and the incredibly popular character, Marvel has revived The Spectacular Spider-Man comic, is launching a PS4 Spider-Man exclusive game (eventually), and is bringing the hero back to Disney XD after the hero’s last series, Ultimate Spider-Man, ended in January.

TVGuide.com has our first look at the new series, Marvel’s Spider-Man, featuring a battle between the old web-head and Scorpion, a character I would very much like to see in the films.

Marvel’s Spider-Man premieres this summer on Disney XD, providing a “fresh take” on Spidey’s origin story:

15-year-old Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive spider and develops superpowers, which he uses to fight crime. As he begins his superhero adventures, he learns that with great power comes great responsibility.

It’s really cool that Peter is dressed in a homemade outfit that looks very much like the one he will be wearing in the second half of Spider-Man: Homecoming, after Tony Stark confiscates his fancy Stark Tech suit. Perhaps this suggests that this take on Spider-Man will mirror the film, using Stark as part of the suit’s origin, and a mentor like in Homecoming. Or, it could just be a ploy to sell more action figures.

Whether or not this take on Spider-Man’s origin will actually be “fresh,” I do like the animation style. The animated Spider-Man moves with the grace of his big screen counterparts, and strikes poses straight from the comics. He needs to work a wee bit on his banter, though.

What do you think of the first footage from Marvel’s Spider-Man? Will you be watching the latest animated adaptation of the web-slinger, or do you doubt how fresh this latest take can actually be? Let us know in the comment section below!

Marvel’s Spider-Man premieres later this summer on Disney XD.
